Talk about God’s favor, Jesus had it even before He started His earthly ministry. Throughout the gospel, there was not a single request or desire of Jesus His Father did not grant. God the Father always hears His Son’s request. In this devotional, we will distinguish how Jesus showed His love and honor.

When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee. There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him.—Luke 2:39-40

Favor abounds in the Kingdom of God. And it is a by-product of obedience to God. Obedience is not just doing good things. Moreover, if it’s just good deeds then it would end up like we are earning God’s favor by performance. God’s favor cannot be earned by performance but only by obedience.

Our PERFORMANCE and OBEDIENCE are two different things. Performance is based on wanting to prove yourself to the one you’ve submitted to. Obedience is anchored in love and honor to the one you’re submitted to.

Good deeds are not enough. Additionally, the basis upon which your good deeds are coming from will determine whether you will earn God’s favor or not. The basis which your good deeds are based upon is what matters.

Similarly, in the case of Jesus, His Father’s favor was upon Him because He grew up loving and honoring His Father. His acts toward His Father and people were rooted in LOVE and HONOR. This is real obedience.

Furthermore, it’s not enough that we love God, we must also learn to honor Him. Many Christians love God but they do not honor Him.

Again, if we can grow in learning to love and honor God at the same time, we will become like Christ who has the favor of heaven. To become like Him is our ultimate goal. When we are like Him, anything would be possible.
